Description

Handmade Byzantine Icon of Virgin Mary of Prousa.

The miraculous Icon of Panagia of Prousa ("Prousiotissa") was saved from Bursa in Asia Minor around 829 AD during the era of iconoclasm. The icon was taken all the way to Thrace by a young man, but its traces were mysteriously lost there.

Then, the Icon was revealed to a shepherd, in the area of Evrytania, in the form of a column of light indicating in this way the spot where the Virgin wanted the current monastery to be build.

The Icon of Panagia of Prousa is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.

During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.

It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
