Description

Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Mark, Archbishop of Ephesus.

Saint Mark, Archbishop of Ephesus was born in 1392 AD and was brought up with a Christian education. He received theological and philosophical studies and succeeded his father in teaching.

In the following years, Saint Mark wanted to devote himself to God, and so he became a monk. Over the years, he became a priest and was later ordained Archbishop of Ephesus.

In the synod held for the union of the Eastern and Western Churches, Saint Mark found many opponents as he did not want to sign in favor of it.

He was arrested and imprisoned in Lemnos for two years and then returned to Constantinople until his death in 1444.

Troparion

By your profession of faith, O all-praised Mark / the Church has found you to be a zealot for truth. / You fought for the teaching of the Fathers; / you cast down the darkness of boastful pride. / Intercede with Christ God to grant forgiveness to those who honor you!

The Icon of Saint Mark, Archbishop of Ephesus is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.

During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.

It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
