Description

Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Lamentation.

The Lamentation is sung during the Easter season to praise the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. In essence, a glorious event is glorified, the victory over death for all mankind.

That is why the well-known Stases that it includes, such as "Life in (the) tomb", "All the generations" and "Oh, My Sweet Springtime" , which praise the Passion of Jesus Christ and his Works, show awe to His face and not just sorrow.

Passage from First Stasis "Life in (the) tomb"

In a grave they laid Thee, yet, O Christ Thou art Life, and the armies of the angels beheld amazed, giving glory that Thou chose to condescend.

How, O Life, dost Thou die?

How dost Thou dwell entombed,

Who hast slashed through all the bonds in the realm of death, and hast raised the dead in Hades from their graves.

The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.

Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.

During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Lamentation is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.

Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
