Description

Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Sabbas, the New, of Kalymnos.

Saint Sabbas of Kalymnos was born in 1862 in Kalymnos and from an early age he felt the need to devote himself to God. Starting from Mount Athos, he headed to Jerusalem where he stayed for about 26 years.

In 1926, he returned to Kalymnos and began his monastic life at the Convent of All Saints of the island. He was known for his mercy and the compassion he showed to his fellow man while with the gift of miracle-working given to him by God, he confirmed his holiness.

Ten years after his death, when the exhumation took place, it was found that his remains were fragrant.

Apolytikion

Let us faithful praise Holy Savvas, the glory and protector of Kalymnos, and peer of the Holy Ascetics of old; for he has been glorified resplendently as a servant of C hrist, with the gift of working miracles, and he bestows upon all God's grace and mercy.

Kontakion

Today the island of then Kalymnians celebrates your holy memory with a rejoicing heart; for it possesses as truly God-given wealth, your sacred body that has been glorified by God, O Father Savvas, approaching which they receive health of both soul and body.
