Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of the Entry of the Virgin in the Temple.
The Entry of Theotokos to the Temple is one of the biggest feasts of our church. It is the entry of Mary at the age of three into the Temple where her parents, Joachim and Anna, handed her over to the High Priest Zacharias, who knew her future role in the salvation of the world. Zacharias blessed her saying, "It is in you that He has glorified your name in every generation. It is in you that He will reveal the Redemption that He has prepared for His people in the last days."
Mary remained in the Temple under the protection of the Archangel Gabriel and left when the time of the Annunciation had come.

Today is the prelude of God's pleasure and the proclamation of man's salvation. The Virgin is clearly made manifest in the temple of God and foretells Christ to all. Let us also cry out to her with mighty voice, "Hail, fulfillment of the Creator's dispensation."
