Jesse Tree - Hand Painted Icon

Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Jesse Tree.

The Icon of the Jesse Tree centrally represents the Virgin Mary, who comes from the Jesse family, while around her are spread the branches of the tree, on which Prophets of the Old Testament are depicted.

The tree seems to grow from the reclining Jesse, while instead of a flower, the enthroned Virgin Mary is depicted.

Hand-Painted Icons occupy a valuable place in ecclesiastical art because, beyond their obvious artistic value, a hand-painted icon unites man with the holiness of the depicted person.
