Description

Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Hypomone (in Greek meaning Patience).

Saint Hypomone , born Eleni Dragasi-Paleologou, was born in 1372 in Serbia and was the daughter of Bishop. He grew up with a Byzantine education and was taught the Word of God. She married Manuel II Palaiologos and had nine children, three of whom died.

Saint Hypomone , although she was experiencing an unhappy marriage, taught her children to live a frugal life and to pray for salvation while she often helped the people with charity.

After her death in 1450, Saint Hypomone was buried in the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator of Christ in Constantinople.

Apolytikion

The noble queen let us hymn, Hepomone the Righteous, the pious dove who flew from the world's disarray towards the dwlling place of heaven, in unending love, asceticism and humility, crying, shatter, by your prayers, the shackles of the lawless, O queen.

The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.

Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.

During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Hypomone is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.

Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
